Keys to Peace is participating in
Woofstock 2013 on March 16th. KTP is proud to be a supporter of Woofstock and Marvelous Pet Rescues & Adoptions.
KTP members will accompany the Peace Arch with Peace Bells to sell raffle tickets. Proceeds from
the raffles go to The Good Health Clinic, Island Dolphin Care, and the Domestic Abuse Shelter. KTP is in need of volunteers
to attend the Peace Arch display and sell raffle tickets. If you are able to give an hour or two on March 16th to benefit
our Keys Community, Woofstock is a jam-packed groovy day of Peace, Paws, and Music! People from around
the world and over 1,000 dogs gather at Founders Park in Islamorada for Woofstock each year. This is a fun day filled with
great activities for everyone involved, from the two legged to four. The main purpose of this event is to raise awareness
of the over-population of pets and to raise money for MarrVelous Pet Rescues & Adoptions. In addition, MarrVelous Pet
Rescues along with other rescue groups adopt out dogs to their "Furever Homes"!

Good Luck! -
by Dr. David Coppola, Holistic Doctor, DC, Author An excerpt from his book
"The Wisdom of Emotions - Building Genuine Happiness and Finding Inner Peace," copyright © 2013. Books available
at the offices of Dr. Coppola, or purchase online: www.DrDavidCoppola.com Create
your reality by welcoming good luck into your life. Good luck is merely preparedness when opportunity arises. I tell my
patients that we must overcome our challenges creatively instead of helplessly. So begin to set your table for luck and
pull up a chair. Not feeling lucky lately? "Hard work, sweat and perseverance will often lead to good luck," according
to my friend Frank Hawkins, an entrepreneur and author. Those words of wisdom are from his first-hand experience.
When you are emotionally strong and stable, with a well-developed consciousness
and awareness, you are able to harmonize negative emotions that otherwise might contribute to a weakness when you are faced
with misfortune. None of us are exempt from life's difficulties-tragedies affect us all because we are all interconnected.
One way or another we are affected by the disasters in this world. Hopefully, you personally are not feeling overwhelmed
by negative emotions stemming from tragedies and difficult circumstances. But if you are, see this as your wake up call
to get to work on yourself. This is your time. You owe it to yourself to live your own best life, and you owe it to the world.
We are all interconnected and your inner peace and well-being are integral aspects of the whole universe. Start with
a daily practice to foster your inner peace and innate ability to be kind, which are important keys to cultivating happiness.
Begin to serve your neighbor and give to your favorite charities. Live compassionately. Allow a shift to empower your intention
and fulfill your dream of living in heaven here on earth. "It's always here and now!" says my friend Kelly
Hostetler, a creative artist, poet and philosopher. This is your chance to live your very best life. As you increase your
learning capacity, which is your willingness to learn and accept change, you begin to foster your innate ability to heal
from any health condition. Begin realizing that you are powerful beyond your imagination! Dr. David Coppola has
practiced holistic medicine for 18 years. He has helped thousands of patients restore health and maintain wellness through
every stage of their lives. He practices Chiropractic Manipulation, Acupuncture, Massage Therapy and Emotional Healing. He
is also a life coach who enriches and inspires as he teaches awareness and mindfulness to obtain optimal health. For more

Student Peace Alliance Founder Gives Speech at Burton Memorial
Annabelle Bricker, 20-year-old and math major at New College of Florida, spoke at Burton Memorial United Methodist Church in Tavernier (the site of a Community Peace Park). She spoke on forgiveness,
something she feels is an integral part of peace. In her flowered kimono and Japanese sandals, Annabelle preached a
sermon at both the United Methodist Women's Sunday services.
When UMW President Virginia Spear introduced
Annabelle she told about Annabelle's response to her 17-year-old brother being deploy to Iraq. Annabelle, only 14
at the time, took her mother and her friends to march in the first Keys to Peace Walk, and subsequently she founded
the first high school chapter of the Student Peace Alliance at Coral Shores High School. When Virginia said this
all of the Keys to Peace members at the church service applauded wildly...and rightfully so, as they are the adults who
had provided the inspiration and perspiration for this student organization, an organization that went on to facilitate
the first Peace Legislation in the Florida Keys, and established several Community Peace Parks. Bolstered by her experiences with the Student Peace Alliance,
Annabelle was chosen by the National division of United Methodist Women to spend a week at the United Nations, and later
travel to Japan to the 66th Anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima (thus the kimono). Suffice it to say, never
underestimate the impact of your efforts for peace. Here are some exerts from Annabelle's presentation: ...I had the privilege of being one of forty college women to attend a week-long United Methodist Women's seminar
on peace held at the Joaquin Wesleyan College in Hiroshima, Japan. Our week of studies culminated in the
ceremony of the 66th Anniversary of the Bombing of Hiroshima. There the idea of forgiveness took on a whole new depth
of meaning. We met and heard presentations by a number of survivors of the bomb dropped on the town of Hiroshima at
the end of World War II. These gentle people told eye-opening accounts and personal stories of the aftermath of this
devastating event. But what was surprising wasn't that they forgave the people of the United States,
but that they asked for our forgiveness for Japan's part in the war... ... As I am continuing my journey through
college, constantly meeting new people, building new relationships and being part of a community, I have found even more
value in forgiveness. Not only should we forgive those who trespass against us, as well as ourselves for trespassing against
others, but forgiveness should be ingrained in our every action. While interacting with others I like to study
behaviors, tendencies, reactions, and relationships. What I have come to find is that everyone has insecurities which inhibit
us from fully loving one another. People are afraid to be themselves, afraid to tap into the limitless amounts of love we
store within ourselves. So much of our interactions with each other are constrained, so much love is withheld for fear of
rejection, and judgment. What I have realized is that forgiveness is the key to healthy people, healthy relationships, good
conversations, and freedom of mind. When I am able to let go of that stupid thing I said a few minutes ago, forgive that
awkward moment, forgive others for seemingly inconsiderate actions, forgive others for any flaws they may have on a moment
by moment basis- I am able to see life for how God wants us to see it. We need not get hung up on the silly things in life,
the material things, the reputations, the stereotypes, the grudges, the hostility, the past... ... God has given us the ability to love endlessly,
unconditionally, unlimitedly, ubiquitously. (In Buddhism this is called our Buddha-nature). I have discovered this love and I will forever be blessed by it. I feel that I have found the ability to find
love in everything in existence and this is the source for my perennial happiness...And remember, God is Love. Life is short.
So love everyone and everything around you to your fullest ability. See it for how God made it, extraordinary. God loved
us so much that he gave his one and only son to tell us, his children, we are forgiven. Let me leave you with one of my favorite quotes by
an anonymous author: "Dear Human: You've got it all wrong. You didn't come here to master unconditional
love. That is where you came from and where you'll return. You came here to learn personal love.Universal
love. Messy love. Sweaty love. Crazy love. Broken love. Whole love. Infused with divinity. Lived through the
grace of stumbling. Demonstrated through the beauty of messing up, often. You didn't come here to be perfect.
You already are. You came here to be gorgeously human. Flawed and fabulous. And then rise again into
remembering."
After the
service Annabelle gave each one in the congregation an origami peace crane, like the ones at the shrine
of Sadaka in Hiroshima. Annabelle is now serving on a National Program Advisory Group for United Methodist Women. She is the youngest
of 85 women... all, no doubt, like those of us in Key to Peace, passionate about peace.

| | | | | A Message from the President...
Hello all you Keys to Peace,
We are currently supporting a project started by thelongwalkhome.org to build gyms that will be open to the public and free for veterans. The intent is to reach those who have fallen
through the cracks and give opportunities to others, to give a hand up.
I came up with this idea after I had walked barefoot across America carrying a sign that stated, "18 Vets a day commit
suicide" and getting people to sign a petition for mandatory counseling for returning Vets.
Every day I walked, I met Veterans; some were
emotionally crippled, some were not, but all of them had been changed forever. They were asked
to do the unspeakable then told not to speak about it. After bringing
the petition to Washington DC I knew I could do more and thought if I could create a safe environment that was familiar
with peers present, a real difference could be made helping more of them make it back home, not just for a visit.
Having been in the gym business for 28 years I decided that would be the best way for me to help.
The people at Keys to Peace know of no better way to help create
peace in the world then to help others find peace. We are asking anyone that feels moved, to give a hand in making
this a success, To make a difference with like-minded people or if you want more information on this please contact Ron
Zaleski at 305-453-6789 (ronzaleski@gmail.com) |

life, return to this basic stillness at the end of each breath, movement and thought" written by master yogi Richard

| | | | | | Forgiveness Unveils Your Spiritual Journey
- by Dr. David Coppola,
Holistic Doctor, DC, Author An excerpt from Dr. Coppola's upcoming book "The Wisdom of Emotions - Building Genuine Happiness and Finding
Inner Peace" Forgiveness
is an area where many of us can use a lot of work-it is critically important, yet many of us are not very good at forgiveness
and are unfortunately not in the habit of forgiving. Yet, forgiving is one of the most important tools in terms of creating
a fulfilled life and truly knowing who you are. The realm of forgiveness is a sanctuary for knowing love. First, we need
to forgive ourselves for all the times we couldn't overcome challenges. Healing
vibrations also begin with your choice to forgive. So start making healthier choices each and every day. With every choice
there is a consequence, and it doesn't have to be a bad one. There is something to learn from every experience,
although to do so it helps to remain aware of your support systems, your healing strategies and your vast capacity to change.
Moving on from the "bad things" that have happened to you is imperative. Do your best to not rationalize and blame.
Forgive, accept and release toxic energy by practicing the techniques presented in this book.
Spirituality
is a journey to knowing who you are and what your purpose is. Let me help you get started by giving you some answers
to consider. A couple of statements you want to begin telling yourself every day when you ask yourself the questions "Who
am I?" and, "What is my purpose?" are: "I am a loving kind person. I am a peaceful, forgiving person
who thrives when I give and receive love." "My purpose is to be an example of peace, love and generosity. My purpose
is to be happy and fulfilled in my existence." Remember, happiness is not just an emotion. It's a way of
life. Begin your journey today by practicing these tips. Acts of forgiveness will tune you in to vibrations which become
quite fulfilling and thereby produce feelings of joy, contentment, and appreciation. I wish you light and levity in your
journey, and of course, infinite love & gratitude!

| | | | | Patience is a Virtue -
by Dr. David Coppola, Holistic Doctor, DC An excerpt from his upcoming book "The Wisdom of Emotions - Building Genuine Happiness and Finding Inner
Peace" Along
with meditation, it's a good idea to cultivate the virtues of patience and tolerance in your life. Have you heard the
saying, "Patience is a virtue"? It is a proverb that has been taught for centuries by the great systems of wisdom
in this world for a reason. In order to pleasantly go with the flow of life and see the world with a cup-is-half-full attitude,
we must behave according to the wisdom in this proverb. "Tolerance"
in the Chinese character (忍) is symbolized as the edge of a blade (刃)
on the heart (心). Why? This image represents how painful it is to accept others as they
are while attempting to gently teach peace and loving-kindness through our actions.
A
great wisdom of Buddhism says that those who have a tremendous reserve of patience and tolerance also enjoy easy access
to calmness and tranquility in their lives. People with these qualities are more emotionally grounded, experience less illness,
sleep with a clear conscience, and possess a genuine happiness. We
must do our best to bring patience and tolerance to consciousness so we are better equipped for making healthier decisions
in life. It is times when our patience is tried that we must choose to be calm rather than selfish or defensive. Consciousness
and awareness work best in overcoming the protective, defensive modes we are sometimes prisoner to. Meditation helps strengthen
our reserves of patience. It behooves us to exercise our ability to embrace life with the attitude of gratitude, which is
a patience-booster. The practice of patience, tolerance
and awareness also helps prevent over-developing of the ego. The ego does not need more developing in most people. It sometimes
works overtime and creates quite the imbalance in our lives. The ego is an internal force which drives selfishness. It stands
for "Edging God Out." Think about it.
Dr. David F. Coppola has practiced holistic medicine for over 18 years. He founded Gables Optimal Health in Coral Gables,
FL in 1997, and opened an integrative health care center in the Upper Florida Keys in 1999. He has helped thousands of patients
restore health and maintain wellness through every stage of their lives. He is a Doctor
of Chiropractic, acupuncturist, and Certified Lifeline Practitioner. He is also a life coach who enriches and inspires
as he teaches awareness and mindfulness to obtain optimal health. For more information on his book "The Wisdom of Emotions,"

| | | | | | Welcome to HEART SPACE...A
space to explore yoga, breathing and meditation...Offered by Shevaun, Heart of Yoga and Massage.
We are going to continue with "Breathing Out Thoughts and Tensions"...Sitting in
Easy Pose, legs crossed, spine tall, shoulders relaxed and eyes closed.
You
can always lean up against a wall or support your legs by placing pillows under the bent knees on either side...Hands are
resting on the knees, palms faced up and open.
Begin to relax with deep inhales and
deep exhales...Now watch your thoughts arise...Pay attention to the thoughts that disturb your equanimity and breathe them
out the mouth...Breathe in and breathe out the thoughts...Continue for as many moments as you wish.
On your next exhale, release the upper torso towards the floor, keeping the legs crossed...Do
not push or force...Just let the body and mind surrender forward....Stay for 10 long breaths, slowly rise up, pause then
change the crossing of the legs and repeat.
Please end your session with three OMMM's...Honoring
the light, love and peace that dwells within us all!!!...Namasté.
(Private yoga and massage sessions are available with discounts by mentioning the practice
of HEART SPACE...Please call 305-393-1494) |

 | | | | A Memorable Homeless Memorial
COMPASSION FOR HOMELESS PERSONS One of our members, who moved to the mainland, learned of National Homeless Person's
Memorial Day (Dec. 21) and the local memorial service after reading last month's newsletter. She contacted us to share that she and her family had experienced
hard times and were homeless for five months last year.Through the kindness of friends, she and her four children never had
to sleep in a shelter or outside. Just
before Thanksgiving, they found a home and their finances are improving. Even though she couldn't attend the
service in Tavernier, it meant a lot to her to know that others took time out to remember those who died homeless in the
Keys. Recently
she was able to help a homeless couple and shared this story - "You wouldn't believe what happened the night after we exchanged emails.I
went to the Walgreens to get milk for the kids on my home. There was a homeless couple sitting on the sidewalk in the cold.I
was able to help get some things they needed.A friend was with me so we offered them a ride to where they sleep under a
tree.On the way they asked my friend (who knows and prays for a lot of street people) if he knew a certain someone.
"Then they said that man
had recently died on the street. When I mentioned to them about Dec. 21 as the National Homeless Persons Memorial Day we
were all speechless and teary-eyed.It was a very special moment for them. One of the things I know about homeless people
is they feel intense rejection, loneliness and simply -- invisible. Knowing about this ceremony meant a lot to them. Thank
you again." |

Traveling Peace Arch gets a face lift... Keys to Peace member Jim Marcotte assisted by volunteer
Wayne Scaturro (left) of Artistic Designs Sign Company (305-853-1008) gave the Traveling
Peace Arch a much needed renewal: all rusted screws were replaced with stainless steel; cracked display blocks were replaced
with new wood and all the blocks spelling out "PEACE," on both sides of the top of the arch, were repainted.
Then the KTP bell
(Liz Queeny's "Peaceful Village") was cleaned up: the rusted and ragged bellrope was replaced, the bottom edge
of the bell was cleaned and repainted and the rusted key was also cleaned and repainted.
Many thanks to both guys for their hard work and
dedication! | Come
in and see the Peace Bell on display at the booth: Claudia Moriarty's "Peaceful Ibis." Ring the bell and buy

 | | | Rave Reviews for "Relax and Renew" Find your personal peace
FREE GUIDED RELAXATION CLASSES Carmen
M., a new student, shared the following comments:
"I was at the Relaxation-Meditation class last Tuesday.
I like how the class was done. The combination of yoga-like movements, guided meditation, soft music and candle light was
great, and even some sounds were incorporated. I found it to be fantastic. "There was
a very nice feeling/energy in the room. In particular, the guide [Karin Wolfe] was excellent. I liked the pace
and tone of her voice. It was serious, yet subtle. She carried the class with confidence and love. I am definitely
looking forward to attending her classes again." Pam G.
shared the following :
"I am so glad I had an opportunity to tell Denise and
Andrea , "THANK YOU!" What a wonderful
gift it is that Keys to Peace and Islamorada Fitness have provided
to the community every week - personal peace! "I
had seen the flyers for the class and I made sure that I would not miss it since I was feeling
quite stressed. I loved the first class [led by Ruth Schrader-Grace] and was lucky enough to get there
the second week, but my third week I was unable to attend this FREE Relax & Renew class-it just wasn't meant to
be. Wow! I soon realized how much I missed it in my life from the week before. I made sure not to miss the fourth week.
"It
is a weekly event, that I look forward to, and the cost is FREE. However,
if you like, Keys to Peace will accept your donation and continue to seek out these wonderful practitioners
for regular events like these. "I know as the days go by that there will be
other weeks, I will not be able to attend, but, I must say that for anyone feeling stressed out, frustrated with life, unhappy,
and just cranky, give these Relax & Renew FREE classes a chance. You might smile, or meet someone
new, or learn something new about yourself.
"Thank you again Keys to Peace and Islamorada
Fitness. Have a beautiful day." |

Wyland Peace Bell has New Home in Plantation Key
 | Wyland, right, with the Peace Bell he created, hanging in the center. [photo courtesy of Savannah Ackles] | Wyland, world-renowned marine life artist and Keys resident, has created a one-of-a-kind peace
bell, " Peaceful Sea, " which features a sea turtle flying through the water. The bell recently traveled with the
artist as he visited and restored the Wyland Walls throughout the Keys. A local family has donated $ 7000 to own the Wyland Peace Bell. Keys To Peace and the Wyland Foundation extend their thanks for this generous donation which will be shared by the two

Speaking Out Against Hate At the request of Monroe County students, reformed racist skinhead, Angela King, spoke throughout Monroe County against hate
and bullying.
In September Angela spoke at all three high schools and at a public talk sponsored by Keys To Peace.
She shared her experiences as a skinhead and how her life took a dramatic shift. King addressed the danger and widespread
nature of prejudice and hate groups.
She is currently active in a nonprofit organization, Life After Hate, and
is the Editor-In-Chief of their on-line literary magazine. (www.lifeafterhate.org). Partial funding for King's visit to the Keys was made possible through a donation from Keys To Peace. |

We are pleased to announce that the winner of "Lively Lorelei" (mermaid
peace bell by artist C.Ré Robbins) is Angie Lucas, a long-time supporter of Keys To Peace!
Angie
recently opened her home to an inspirational speaker who spoke to Monroe County high school students.
Keys To Peace was a partial sponsor of these talks and the funds were generated from peace bell
raffle ticket sales. Certainly makes one think about the old adage - " What goes around, comes around ! "
Many thanks to all of you who have purchased peace bell raffle tickets and
support our fundraising efforts. Maybe you will be our next lucky winner!! |

We recently celebrated
our 5th birthday at the Rain Barrel
Artists Village. Our traveling peace arch was situated next to " Betsy, " the giant lobster. It was a double photo
op for visitors and there were sounds of peace bells ringing all day! Everyone enjoyed delicious sweets baked by Yvonne from
The FLA-KEY Croissant (Midway Cafe). C Ré Robbins, peace bell artist, pulled the winning ticket for her mermaid bell
(see article to the left). We extend a special thanks to the artists at Artamorada Gallery who are doing such a wonderful job of promoting the peace

Labyrinth IN NEED The Community Peace Park located alongside Coral Isles Church (MM 90 Oceanside) is a lovely place to meditate, whether
walking the labyrinth or just sitting and being. The labyrinth is enjoyed by members of our community and visitors alike Carole
Vann, a self-proclaimed "labyrinth freak" and Keys To Peace volunteer, says that the labyrinth was one
of the reasons she chose to live in Plantation Key. The first labyrinth she ever walked was at Ghost Ranch, a retreat center
in New Mexico, and she has been "hooked" ever since. Carole has recently volunteered her expertise as a fundraiser
and event coordinator to help rejuvenate the labyrinth which is being encroached by tree roots.
If you would like to serve
on the committee working with Coral Isles Church on this project, please contact Aileen Miller at admillerdc@bellsouth.net .
The possibilities
are limited only by our imaginations!! You can learn more about the benefits of walking a labyrinth at www.veriditas.org and www.labyrinthsociety.org . |

Event 2: Peace Talk by Angela King - "Experiences
of a Skinhead, the Road to Recovery and the Dangers of Prejudice and Hate Groups" Time:
7:00 - 8:00 PM Location: Key Largo Library (MM 101.4 community room) As a confused young
person in South Florida, Angela King became involved with a group of racist Skinheads. Entrenched in the racist underground,
crime became an increasingly important part of Angela's life and she was arrested in 1998 and sentenced to six years in
prison for her part in an armed robbery of a Jewish-owned video store. After accepting responsibility for her actions, she
was released from prison three years early for good behavior and cooperation with authorities. She has since graduated from
college and earned a Masters Degree. Angela routinely works as a keynote speaker, consultant, advocate and agent of change
in schools, communities, religious centers and elsewhere. She has received numerous awards and recognition for her dedication
to teaching tolerance and prejudice reduction. Angela is also scheduled to speak during the week to students at all Monroe
County High Schools as part of the Be The Change program. ~

Event 3: "Turning In Toward Peace"
an hour of yoga and meditation with Shevaun (Heart of Yoga and Massage - heartyoga@hotmail.com / 305-393-1494) Time: 8:15 - 9:15 PM Location: Key Largo Library community
room At the close of the evening, we will be taking time to turn inward toward
the peace, love and joy that resides within all of us. The essence of peace comes from within and we can experience this through
the art of yoga and meditation. Yoga is a peaceful way to calm the body and reduce stress through gentle movements. Meditation
is a gift that can slow down the "monkey mind" through conscious breath awareness and stillness. Both practices
will lead us home to the heart where peace and compassion dwell. Everyone is welcome, even if you've never tried either
practice. Bring a large towel or a yoga or exercise mat and a pillow or cushion for meditation.
NOTE: Both events at the library are FREE! |

Labyrinth IN NEED The Community Peace Park located alongside the Coral Isles Church is a lovely place to meditate whether walking the
labyrinth or just sitting and being. It's a place where groups can gather for lunch and discussions. Recently
a storm broke a huge limb off one of our favorite trees which fell in the center of the labyrinth. Members of Coral Isles Church removed the limb. Upon further investigation it was discovered that the entire tree was rotten so the same members cut down the tree. The labyrinth is used by many who are not members of the church or of Keys To Peace. The labyrinth
is in need of repair due to tree roots infringing into the labyrinth as far as the 3rd course. Whatever is done for rejuvenation
of the labyrinth and the park, the fact is that funds are needed. We are asking for volunteers to Master-mind a Fund Raiser.
Members of Coral Isles Church
have come forward when needed and have helped with the upkeep of the Peace Park. This is a joint venture, so let's come
forward with your expertise and get involved!

Key Largo. These three events will be held at 5:30pm on Tuesdays the remainder of the month of July,

of a more beautiful spot to sit in meditation than looking out at dolphins rising to the surface to breathe, in an space that

There is no cost for these events, and a donation box will
be made available for those who would like an opportunity to give and to demonstrate the law of reciprocity and the law of circulation. At
the end of this three-week experiment, a decision will be made as to whether or not we will continue to meet weekly; whether

President Ron Zaleski started the nonprofit thelongwalkhome
in 2006 and has walked the Appalachian Trail and across America barefoot to create awareness for PTSD and get mandatory counseling
for all military personel prior to discharge. He continues to work along these lines to help those that have fallen through
the cracks. His home base has been the Keys since 2007 and he looks forward to being part of the difference that the Keys
to Peace is.
Vice President Marlene DeTienne has worked in nonprofits for over 10 years and brings that knowledge as well as web page creation
and graphic arts to her new position. She's lived in Key Largo since November 2010 and loves the paradise that is the
Florida Keys. Treasurer Nancy E Joe has a B.S. in Business management and has worked with accounting software
programs for 20 years. She has always enjoyed volunteer work with both people and animals. She moved to Florida in 2000 from
California and to the Keys in 2003. At-Large (Membership): Denise Downing served as the first President
of Keys To Peace when it was incorporated in 2008. Her main goals for this term are to increase membership and inspire others
to take on leadership roles in the organization. ~

 | Super-volunteer, Paula, with a customer on a Saturday
morning |
July, as volunteer appreciation month, had the volunteers who've been with us the longest presented
with Certificates of Appreciation. Both Paula McLaughlin, pictured above, and Nancy Joe, our new Treasurer, were
awarded them. Also volunteering at the booth is Carole Vann (we miss you Corrine Hughes!) and this month we have two new volunteers,
Barbara and Lou Cimmarusti.
The market has a new women's clothing booth and coming in August will be - hopefully
- a booth for men's clothing. And, check out the wonderful fruit cups next to the produce outside (I personally had a
wonderful one last week - mango, cucumber, cantaloupe, and watermelon slices
- wonderful and refreshing!)
In addition
to new booths, come see the wonderful produce. There are two areas outside and they are
open all week long. Be the face
of Keys to Peace in our only brick and mortar
location, read some of the wonderful books that have been donated or just smile at the visitors to the market each weekend.
The market is located at mm 101 B/S and is open
Fri through Sun, 9 AM to 5 PM. Volunteers and backups are needed for 2, 3 or 4 hour shifts.

Peace Park located alongside the Coral Isles Church is a lovely place to meditate whether walking the labyrinth or just sitting
and being. It's a place where groups can gather for lunch and discussions. Recently a storm broke a huge limb off one
of our favorite trees which fell in the center of the labyrinth.
Members of Coral Isles Church removed the limb. Upon further investigation
it was discovered that the entire tree was rotten so the same members cut down the tree. The labyrinth is used by many who are not members of the church or of Keys To Peace.
The labyrinth is in
need of repair due to tree roots infringing into the labyrinth as far as the 3rd course. What ever is done for rejuvenation
of the labyrinth and the park, the fact is that funds are needed. We are asking for volunteers to Master-mind a Fund Raiser.
Members of Coral
Isles Church have come forward when needed and have helped with the upkeep of the Peace Park. This is a joint Venture, so
let's come forward with your expertise and get involved!

Notes from the Island Market Place JUNE
2012 | Super-volunteer, Paula, with customer on a
Saturday morning |
June turned out to be a terrific month! And July is IMP volunteer appreciation month:
Paula McLaughin (pictured above) has been with us now for more nearly a year and a half, standing her usual watch in
a superior fashion every Saturday morning. We really appreciate you Paula! And, starting with the market just after Paula began is Nancy Joe who has been just as tireless in her effort! Both
women have busy schedules and we are fortunate that they have put them aside for a few hours on the weekends at the market. In addition to new booths, the great produce from the
Redlands at the Farmer's Market is in full season. They are open
all week long. New and favorite
items are in abundance at the KTP booth: Peace Purses & Yoga Togs for summer! Or just come make a wish on the Wishing
Tree! Spend your hours volunteering,
be the face of Keys to Peace in our only brick and mortar location, read some of the wonderful books that have been donated and
enjoy the new booths that have joined since last month: including the new craft booth just inside the door from the Farmer's
Market! (she designs and creates precious clay figures of babies a la Anne Geddes.) The market is located at mm 101 B/S
and is open Fri through Sun, 9 AM to 5 PM. Volunteers and backups are
needed for 2, 3 or 4 hour shifts. |

MAY
2012 Things seem to slow down in May only to speed up
again at the end of the month during the bustle of Memorial Day Weekend. To reiterate about our donated Yoga togs, they are all MADE
IN the USA! Come see the tees, dresses, tops and pants all in time for summer! Spend
your hours volunteering well, be the face of Keys to Peace in our only brick and mortar location (at the moment),
read some of the wonderful books that have been donated and enjoy the new booths that have joined since last month: the Ice
Cream truck and the Bait & Tackle Shop. IMP is located
at mm 101 B/S and is open Fri through Sun, 9 AM to 5 PM. Volunteers and backups are needed for 2, 3 or 4 hour shifts. [One

Ten Tips for PEACE by Mimi Greek
1:
BE HERE NOW: Keep your attention in the present moment. Being upset about the past and worrying about the
future are self-defeating.
2. FORGIVE:
We do not forgive because we "should" or because someone deserves it. We forgive to free ourselves from the bondage
of resentment. Die to the past every moment. Live this moment fully.
3. OBSERVE: Notice your thoughts. Which ones make you upset? Which ones
make you feel better? Remember, you can choose your thoughts.
4. FOCUS: Focus on thoughts that help you feel better. You can be master of your own
mind.
5. QUESTION:
Often, thoughts that upset you are not true. They are beliefs you have carried with you from the past. Question thoughts and
beliefs. Can you see things differently?
6. MEDITATE: Practice quieting your mind. Make a connection to your Higher Self (Higher Power, God,
Universal Energy).
7. REMEMBER:
Remember your True Self. You are not your thoughts. Remember the awareness behind the inner thinker.
8. LISTEN: Listen to your inner Voice.
It is the voice that guides you, comforts you, and gives you strength.
9. SURRENDER: Accept what is. Release all resistance to what is. What
we resist will persist. Breathe. When we accept life the way it is, we find peace.
10. EXPECT: Expect positive results. __________________________________ |

Lorelei Bell next raffle pick... The Lorelei bell (named "Lively Lorelei") by Cynthia
C. Ré Robbins will be the first of the "PEACE BELLS in Paradise" to have a winner drawn. PEACE BELLS in Paradise is a "Sounds of Peace"
project in place now - and has been for a couple of months (see Peace Bell Keepers, here). Artamorada Gallery has been our best-selling raffle ticket location (thanks to everyone there!) and due to their (and
other's) amazing ability with ticket sales, we are three-quarters of the way to the winning ticket amount! That winning ticket will be pulled
by the artist, Cynthia "C.Re" Robbins, at a special event being planned at the Rain Barrel on September
22 (celebrating the International Day of Peace and the 5th birthday of KTP). Someone suggested a mermaid/merman costume party
might be " just the ticket" for a fun and memorable evening. Stay tuned for more details, and note that the
ability to buy tickets online is coming. A little about the artist: C. Ré wanted to
support the efforts of Keys to Peace as soon as she was approached by Denise Downing. Denise's bright and beaming
countenance seemed to embody all the plans of which she spoke. There were peace parks, yoga, Tibetan monks, and other wonderful
developments in the works. C. Ré painted a reef scene with two mermaids
on her peace bell. The metal worker had cut two curvy slits up the tank, which inspired the movement of the soft corals, sea
fans and schools of fish. C. Ré explains her process: "I use an Old
Master's mixed technique of painting. It involves alternating layers of | C.Ré and her
bell |
white egg tempera rendering with transparent oil paint. Special mediums are used to
create a permanent bond. The tempera permits a high level of precision. The oil paint becomes like stained glass in its luminosity. This way of painting works very well for my temperament
and subject matter. The process has an alchemical, magical feeling. One brings light out of the darkness. Artistic direction
seems to channel through the paint. The imagery is often of mystical and magical women, with an emphasis on water, light,
and power. But there is another side to my nature and creativity. Like most of us, I love the architecture, flora/fauna, and
lifestyle of our island chain. I am painting some of my favorite glimpses into the delight that I feel as I admire the Florida
Keys." |
Newest
Business Member - Bitton Bistro Café. Michel and Sylvie Bitton, owners of Bitton Bistro Café (MM 82.2 Oceanside), are our newest business members. The Bitton family has supported Keys To Peace since their arrival in the Keys.
As one of our first " Peace Bell Keepers " (Sylvie coined the term), they proudly display Gloria Avner's peace
bell outside the café. In March they hosted the monks for their Tibetan Marketplace. In May they exhibited peace mandalas
created by Coral Shores High School art students and hosted a lovely opening night party. Please stop in for breakfast, lunch or a gelato and thank them for their support of Keys To Peace and our community. Peace Bells in Paradise Offer | | Liz Queeny's Gallery 84
framed by the Traveling Peace Arch featuring her "Peaceful Island Village" bell |
You can have a custom "Peaceful Island
Village" Peace Bell
Artist, Liz Queeny, of Gallery 84 in Islamorada, www.lizqueeny.com/, donated the original "Peaceful
Island Village " bell to Keys To Peace in May 2011. We decided to permanently display it on our Traveling Peace
Arch which now "lives" outside the gallery at MM 84 Oceanside near Theatre of the Sea.
Due to the widespread appeal
of this bell, Liz has agreed to paint additional bells with a similar design and has generously offered to split the proceeds
with us! Your custom bell can be commissioned starting at $900 plus shipping. Contact Liz at lizqueenybags@comcast.net /305-393-7043.
The first order has just been placed by a Missouri woman who saw the bell and arch outside
Bitton Bistro while she and her family were here on vacation! Peaceful vibes from the Keys are spreading far and wide.

Teaching
Peace Through a Jigsaw Puzzle Thanks to Paula Vieceli, local professional photographer, for taking this
awesome overhead photo of our World Peace Sand Mandala. The interfaith mandala was created at Coral Shores High School by
Tibetan monks from Drepung Gomang monastery in March. We hope to create a jigsaw puzzle of the mandala to foster
interfaith harmony and global peace. Our goal is to have the puzzle ready for holiday gift giving. A volunteer
is needed to research the costs and feasibility of the puzzle. Please contact info@keystopeace.com. Also, please let us know if you have OTHER ideas for using this image to teach peace and raise funds for our
projects. |

| New
Member Spotlight | Last month we met one of our newest members at the Morada Way Arts Walkabout. Terry Tainow, approached us with
our "PEACE BELLS IN PARADISE" rack card inhand. She was looking for the KEYS TO PEACE booth so she could ring some
peace bells!! It was so gratifying to learn that the seeds we planted with this new promotion have started to sprout!
Terry and her husband, John, are renting a home in Plantation
Key for a month. Before their arrival, Terry found KEYS TO PEACE on the web. She decided to make it her mission to visit and
support all of our "PEACE BELL KEEPERS" and ring every peace bell while in the Keys! Terry went to our booth at Island Market Place
as soon as she arrived, wrote us a check for membership, picked up the new rack card and started visiting the shops and galleries
and eating at all the restaurants. She also attended many monks' events and generously bought a large number of raffle
tickets. (She especially loves Gloria Avner's bell at Bitton Bistro!!).
This has been a great way for the Tainows to embrace our community and make new friends. Terry and John, we welcome both of you to
KEYS TO PEACE and look forward to your next vacation with us. Here's another idea-why not just buy a house and stay ??!
Several of our members are Realtors and we'll be glad to get you in contact with them!
Here are the other new members in March:
Chonda Juliano Cresencio delPino family Colin Parker Melody Chapman (business) Michelle Walleston Ron Zaleski Welcome ALL!

Visit to the Keys (Mar 25 - 31) | Island
Dolphin Care Peace Park Blessing (March 26) This beautiful
picture of Jampa, one of the Drepung Gomang monks, who visited our community the last week of March, was taken by Kimberly
Gabel (Note: all these pictures are credited to her...) just prior to the Peace Park blessing at Island Dolphin Care.It seems
to capture the atmosphere of the day - the | Blessing of the bells |
peacefulness of the surroundings.
The park was dedicated amidst new peace bells, a bustling Tibetan marketplace, an appreciative crowd, smiling dolphins
and a delicious luncheon. It was an event to remember!
 | Putting a bandana around a pup |
Island Market Place (Mar 25) The Monks made a splash at the Island Market Place the Sunday that was the first full day of their visit. They set
up their Tibetan Marketplace on tables opposite the
Keys to Peace booth which did the best business thus far this year!) Bandanas were signed, bracelets were sold, singing bowls
were held (and rubbed!) and a grand time was had by all!
Bitton Bistro and Coral Shores High School During the week (Mar 27 - 31), the monks spent their time working on
the mandala at the school and selling their wares at Bitton Bistro Cafe in Islamorada. To see a video of the entire event, including the closing ceremony and the dispersment
of sand, click here. |
| | Notes from Island Market Place (March '12) | The Island Marketplace (mm
101 bay side), is growing with new book donations - and new stuff to purchase - every weekend. In March, we were able to fill
two full shelves with new books: the kids'
shelves are overflowing and we now have neat
coloring/activity books to hand out (FREE) to children who accompany parents who stop by to buy
or just say "HI."
March was also the Monks visit and so we had a banner month financially-sold many new Peace Purses, as well as much
of our signature inventory. Burton Memorial Food Bank picked up food twice during the month, so donations to the food bank
are increasing.
Our inventory has now includes donations of yoga clothing from Kaj Yoga: tees, yoga pants and dresses now hang next
to the booth. | | The KTP Jute Bag |
We still offer our recyclable, biodegradable
Jute KTP shopping bags (which also double as gift bags...) and new bracelets that spell out "PEACE" in letters interspersed
with stylistic peace signs. Just turn left when you come in the market's front door and walk until you see Jen Fletcher's Peace Bell ("Golden
Fishes") hanging on a mini-arch (made by one of our members). And, be sure to ring the bell before you leave the booth
with your raffle tickets for the Peace Bells in Paradise promotion, your purchase in hand or just the smile
you returned to the person staffing the booth. The
Market's hours are Friday through Sunday, 9 AM- 5PM Volunteers (and backups) are needed for 2, 3 or 4 hour shifts. If you want
to help- Contact Marlene at madcat@bellsouth.net. |

Wendy invites everyone to come by and ring the bell for peace. When you visit the nursery, make sure you see all the orchids
that are in full bloom. They are magnificent.
Elena's peace bell is looking for a permanent
home. The suggested donation for the bell is $ 750. This donation includes complimentary shipping anywhere in the continental
United States. More photos of the bell can be viewed at our online peace bell catalog at www.KeysToPeace.com .
